I have a problem having rebuilt the steering box. I get unequal turns on the steering wheel and the wheel turning left is not enough lock. The steering box is built correctly and the only new part is the drop arm off the box I sourced from e-bay when my original one got lost.
Can some one post a big picture of the Bong Bug drop arm so I can check my is the right one and I don't have a Regal one or something else please.
Might sound a daft question But when you put the drop arm on the splines Was the steering centred. You might have assembled it so its on the wrong spline thus not getting full travel in one direction ?
Great info mate. I will check the dimensions. What is troubling is the reliant steering box I bought for bits has the identical drop arm that the 'so called' Bond Bug box I also bought. I thought the Reliant and Bond drop arms were different ?? but both were identical. Am I right ??
Yep I have two wrong steering arms, both are 9 and half inch Robin ones. Need to find a Bond one from somewhere ??
OK, now I've never dealt with these things before so this might be a stupid idea, but...
The "wrong" arm has two holes, and these are too far away from wherever the measurement is taken from. What you need is some way to get those same two holes at the correct distance from wherever the measurement is taken from. Now given you've already had loads of special parts made for the car, would it be possible to get someone to machine a small block that has two holes that you need in the right place, and a sort of square channel that slips over the end of the "wrong" arm. This piece has another two holes drilled through it that line up with the two holes in the "wrong" arm, so you can bolt the channel piece onto the "wrong" arm using the original holes. Then if this adaptor has been measured up correctly you will have two 'new' holes in the place you need them.
Interesting the part number for a Bond Bug and Regal steering arm are the same - 12019. Both have 8 3/4 inch hole centres. Just ordered and paid for a Regal one to be delivered so it will interesting to see if it fits OK.
mybug: Anyone know the whereabouts of PTO 365M? It was mine back in the early 80s and some pix have surfaced here (apparently from ebay around 5 years ago) so is it still around?

mybug: Searched and spooled through every image/video/old ad I can find on the internet, I'm thinking that PTO 365M is not around any more. May be resting in a shed, but given the small and tight-knit Bug community, I'd have thought that someone would know it.
