Looking for recommendations for sidescreen refurbishers/car trimmers. My doors stitching have rotted so I want to sort metalwork myself and get them recovered. Most companies I have contacted cannot fit the metalwork through their machines. Any ideas?

sidescreens after the ludicrous quotes I got .after watching rick shaw on youtube.i decided to make my own.i made the top frames from aluminium flat bar for lightness.i used my wifes ordinary sewing machine using a vinyl needle and extra strong thread,it can be done reasonably easy don't forget the waste side of the material is only a couple of inches therefore it goes through the machine easy.the cost for the materials was about £80 A BIG DIFFERANCE FROM £500

I think my side screens were £200 from triggergas (the William's boys in Saltney) very good quality and the black vinyl strip at the top of the sidescreens is nice and slim to see out easier, some sidescreens I've seen the strip is quite deep so you're ducking to see out, a pain in the neck literally.

Hi, I made mine using some 1/4inch black pipe pulled to shape and fitted with half of the hinges. Then sewed the screens using a Singer sewing machine(old type, nice and heavy duty). I then tried to sew in windows but the machine foot would not drive the plastic through , had to resort to using a tonneau cover manufacturer in Glasgow who sewed the windows in. He wanted to use his plastic but I managed to persued him to use mine as it was free and more flexible. I can roll the screens up when not using them and put them in the boot. My metal tubes fit inside a sleeve on the screen and has a flap to retain them. I also use pipe insulation on the lower frame to reduce the influx of draughts caused by the open fit Bill aka Ayrbugger

I've been all over YouTube and subscribed to Rick Shaw's channel and seen loads and loads of his videos, but can I find the one about the sidescreens?
Can someone post up a link to it please? Thanks
Scrub that - found it! (typical )

hi theres a video on how to make the frames and a couple how to sew on the fabric etc. dave Helmsley advised me that because I was fastening the hinges to captive bolts that I had retained through the rain channel on the canopy, that because of the weight over time it may crack, that is why my top frames are made from aluminium.

Does anyone have any experience of fitting the hinges for the sidescreens. I have agreed to help my sister, who has some new sidescreens and the hinges. There are no male hinge parts currently on the car. I can see how the hinges will bolt to the sidescreens, but it isn't obvious to me how the male part fits to the car. Are they held in place by bolts, or by self-tap screws? Just a photo or two of some existing hinges would be a help. I can't look at the car before I go to do the job, so I am a bit in the dark.
Thanks
David

The male are fitted to,the canopy with 3 4.8mm dia pop rivets and 2 2 BA screws, 1 of the pop rivets fits through the rain gutter so the tail of the rivet is slightly exposed. The female hinges fit to the back of the frame and are held in place by 2 2Ba or M5 screws and nuts. Fit the Lift the Dot fittings last of all regards Roger
