Having my shell restored & resprayed by TTLegend Dave Molyneux on the Isle of Man, He’s close to starting paint & is asking for the paint code of the original Tangerine if that exists. Can you help? Thanks Dave Thomasson Bug club & spares scheme member!

hi dave I have repainted my bug from the gel coat up.i cut a piece othe body off from behin the radiator which had the original paint.i resprayed it in autocolor 2k which is a direct gloss 2pack.the colour was matched by spectrograph and the brand code for the product is 6cne number1.orange.the cars were originally painted in cellulose but this is a very good match to the original.

ford vista orange I agree is pretty good.the problem you have is the original tinters are no longer available,so you have to compromise.i used to work professionally as a spray painter in a main dealer bodyshop for ford before I retired.cellulose paint was made illegal for us years ago.we have been using water-based paints for years.the main thing to remember when painting this colour is it has poor opacity you must always use a very light coloured primer,if you were to use a dark grey for instance the primer shows through and makes the orange have a brown looking hue
