I first saw the bug on the front cover of the Meccano magazine in 1970. Then a few years later my brother got one to tow his Racing bikes about. The first time I drove it was teaching his girlfriend to drive. It Overheated. He then broke the windscreen and bought a cheap bug to swap windscreens.
The cheap bug sat around - my dad was gonna restore it but then decided to sell it. He laughed when I said I'd buy it and restore it. Well I showed him. I did restore it -Its FGU. Ive driven it to many rallys, Home to John o groats to Lands end then home, France, Germany and the big one to the Top of Norway with Rory Richard, Geoff Ellis, and Elvis / Geoff Payne.
I was also instrumental in starting the Bug Club. Created the first multipage Web site for Bugs, Created the first Chat room for Bugs and then later the Forum. This is the 2nd incarnation.
My Bugs been of the road for a while but it will be back.
i can't remember the very first time i saw a Bug but one of the first times was outside our house i saw three bugs go past in convoy, a white one and two orange ones, this would have been in the early 70's not sure exactly what year but i've been hooked ever since

rogeru7: Hi the basic lock is off a Triumph but it will then need a major mod to be used on the Bug canopy unless you have access to a lathe and a mill it’s not an easy mod

mysticmick: hi all . i recently purchased a bug . my dream car for restoration . i have the vin plate . with chassis number and engine number . but sadly no reg number . is there any way of finding out the original reg so i could apply for the v5 .. thanks in advance

cdb15: To Mystic Mick: contact HPI and ask if they will do a VIN-only check. Usually if you have the registration it's £19 or so, but may be different from the VIN. Or there is a DVLA procedure using form V62 - check out the government web site for the procedure.
