Hi Bug folk,
I've been researching the Bug for a year or so, and I'm at the point where I want to start a project, I am an experienced vintage motorcycle restorer on BSA and Triumph, but done nothing really on cars and fibreglass. I hope Bug will be a simple enough project, if I can find someone to take on the bodywork. I have a 4 ton 2-post lift being installed next week.
This Bug thing goes back to when we were kids out in the back of the car, we used to spot Bond Bugs and call them out, they were new then! I've wanted one ever since.
Hertfordshire based. So the hunt is on, I'll keep you all posted.
(BTW, the Bond Bug Wheeler Dealer episode is being broadcast again on Quest on Halloween).
Cheers all.

Hello adl, Welcome to the forum, hope you have options open to undertake a Bug project it doesn't come without problems as you probably know being a motorcycle restorer but I am sure you will have the skills to undertake the job in hand. One of our administrators lives in Hertfordshire so he is close by to you for any help or guidance. He also has projects on the go, and very knowledgeable as he has been a Bug owner for many years. He is known as Stiffy (Ivan) and can contact him on the forum to exchange ideas etc. Also there are many members who have skills and knowledge to help you along if you so wish. Wish you luck with your new project and keep us informed with your progress, eg, photos etc. Dave PS You can see projects and Bug videos on Youtube

Welcome to the mad world of Bond Bugs. You will find that it is quite a simple car, definatly nothing more complicated than you would have done on the motorcycles.

hi adl2
go for it, in an ideal world get a project that is fairly complete and has not been stripped down but as we know we're not in an ideal world. nothing better than a project for pulling your hair out

I'm quite happy doing a project that takes a bit of time. I'm fairly well kitted out with tools for mechanicals and I don't mind a bit of grease and oil. my biggest worry is the bodywork as I have no experience with fibreglass. I think I will find an expert and pay for that work to be done. The thing about bikes is that they take up little space and everything can be lifted by one person.
So I'm thinking I'd like to rescue something that is heading for scrap.
My two post lift is now installed, and I've tested it on my wife's car, it's a lot of fun but sometimes I think it's better not to see the underside!
Shame that it's going to be at least a month before I can go and look at Bugs.
