If it wasn't for my Brother back in the 1980s I wouldn't have bought a bug. My Brother Graham had one as did his mate. Graham used it to tow a racing BSA Bantam and also gave it to me one day to teach his girlfriend to drive. To cut a long story short he needed a windscreen for his Bug so purchased FGU as a scrap Bug for £100 and removed the screen. Dad then got hold of fgu and was going to flog it. I said i would have it and restore it.. Graham sold his Bug -I restored mine and The rest is history
30 years later and Graham was hankering for another. He see's the RUG Bug on E bay contacts the seller and viewing was arranged. We went up to see it last week and a deal was done. It needs a fair bit of work but the chassis looks good as does the canopy. Sorry for those who were looking but a fair price was paid and its going to be restored.
We picked it up today. It needs a new front end as its been damaged but it hasnt been taxed since 1978 so is probbably fairly sound. I will up date you on the progress.
Congratulations Ivan/Graham on your new purchase, he's not rushed into getting another Bug that brother of yours Ivan has he LOL. I must admit I did think it looked a nice worthwhile project when it was listed. Good look with the resto
Hello Chaps, thought I'd better chip in! Fed up building race bikes and fancied something easier for a lockdown project. Cant tell how bad it is as my glasses kept steaming up due to wearing a mask inside the dark barn it was in. How bad can it be? Last Tax Due in 1978 so has only been on the road for 5 years. Bit like Triggers Broom, no saying if the number plate relates to the car I bought? Chassis seems ok but it has an 850 motor fitted? It will need a new nose section as it's been badly repaired and a few other bits and pieces. I'll be going through the boxes of stuff tomorrow and make a list of missing/broken items.
Thanks for all the words of encouragement chaps, I'm fortunate in that I have a nice big warm workshop with plenty of light. I have two motorcycle projects to finish before the 850 motor will be rebuilt but they will not take long to finish. I'll update everyone as I progress.... Stay safe, Cpt B.

mybug: Anyone know the whereabouts of PTO 365M? It was mine back in the early 80s and some pix have surfaced here (apparently from ebay around 5 years ago) so is it still around?

karl: Andrea, just seen your post. if you're still looking try putting it in the for sale wants thread.

mybug: Searched and spooled through every image/video/old ad I can find on the internet, I'm thinking that PTO 365M is not around any more. May be resting in a shed, but given the small and tight-knit Bug community, I'd have thought that someone would know it.
