Had a good day today, Starter motor on and working, new oil filter and oil all is well for the the old girl. Battery charged up key in the ignition and a bottle of San Miguel in hand, what could go wrong. Called my wife into the garage for the big moment, as its hasn't been running for a while due to virus and other issues. Countdown began ignition on, choke out, pump working 5-4-3-2-1 BINGO! on the first turn of the key. I have not been this excited for ages about getting a Bug back to life. The saga continues with the new Carb exchange, then we can get to the rally to see everyone. Oh for happy days. Dave.
Just big kids really aren't we. Hi Vannin, It's amazing feeling for me when your Bug comes to life after you have spent all morning waiting for the spare part to arrive, then all afternoon fitting/tinkering and finally getting a result, magic. That's one big step for me, its like being on the moon. Des 911 if your in the area of Loughborough your welcome anytime, that goes for anyone who is in my area. Next job is fit a heat shield on top of the manifold when I remove the carb for the Zenith which Ivan sent me, looking forward to doing that. Maybe for a few weeks before I can start as funds are a bit tight at the moment, road tax on my Mini is due and insurances are due at the beginning of March for the Bug and the Mini. The Bug has cost a pretty penny in the last 6 months or so just doing basic stuff, that's why I try to do the work myself to keep the costs down. I always respect the lads who restore their Bugs, even doing the work themselves the cost can soon creep up even without hidden costs for auxiliaries etc. I am now on track now for the rally, and it will all be worthwhile in the end I hope.
Hi Vannin/Mark, Thanks for the offer of the heat shield, if you still have my address or email would you mind posting it to me. Or pm me if you need any details. I still have your details for correspondence. I can Paypal you the cost and postage to you, that would be a great help. Really appreciate your help again.
Hi Des911, Didn't know you were local to me, I have a friend who lives in Keyworth he is a cameraman for a tv news channel. He has a motorcycle with all his gear on board to get to locations quickly when they happen. You may have spotted the motorcycle out and about in the village, but he does work funny hours as he has to go when incidents occur. I visit The Plough pub in Wysall quite often when we are in normal times, that would be a nice run out in the Bug, maybe we can sample a beer sometime this summer. Like I have said before on the forum, if you come over to Loughborough we can get together as well, that would be nice. You can also pm me any details and vice versa if you like. Look forward to us meeting up.
If you have a question your better of starting a topic in the main forum.

mybug: Anyone know the whereabouts of PTO 365M? It was mine back in the early 80s and some pix have surfaced here (apparently from ebay around 5 years ago) so is it still around?

mybug: Searched and spooled through every image/video/old ad I can find on the internet, I'm thinking that PTO 365M is not around any more. May be resting in a shed, but given the small and tight-knit Bug community, I'd have thought that someone would know it.
