There was a bloke who lived 5 minutes from my house who sadly passed away late last year and he bought, brand new in 1971 I think, an escort mk1 twin cam special order in sunset red and at the time of his death he not only still owned it but it had done 14k miles and is in superb unrestored condition. On the open market the price of that car would go stratospheric
£40K and still the restoring costs top, well that's just mad.
In my youth I had a JPS 3L capri which had been bored out to 3.1L and x-pack suspension fitted. Beast of a car, loved it to death and still have the pictures but had to sell to put money towards my first house.
Just imagine how much that would be worth today when a 1.6L Lazar goes for 20k.
The silly prices are all down to the scrape scheme which the government introduced many years ago. All the old cars were traded in for the 1K trade in fee, regardless of what they were worth at the time. Thats why there are so few on the roads now.
I have heard many stores that all the traded in cars were taken to an old air field somewhere and that many of the classic clues have been asking the government to release the cars for parts. Hard to believe to be honest.
What I just don't get is there is for example another mk2 RS2 for sale at the moment which a dealer has and all his stock is very tidy, his RS2 is not only in a desirable colour and in excellent condition but is also £12k cheaper, The mind boggles.
What year was the scrappage scheme ? A decade ago ? Two ? There were no RS cars being scrapped even then, just mundane euro box dogs with the odd exception and I mean odd exception The scrappage scheme had/has virtually zero effect if any at all on the prices of desirable Fords in 2021. Any RS model was has and is always going to be sought after, exactly how sought after is dependant on condition and exact model. The days of even family 4 door mk1 and mk2 escorts being scrapped are long long gone let alone anything sought after. Investors and interest rates has far more to do with the meteoric rise in escort prices oh and a legendary rallying pedigree doesn't exactly suppress prices does it. What price on the escort FEV1H ? What I should say is how many millions ?

mybug: Anyone know the whereabouts of PTO 365M? It was mine back in the early 80s and some pix have surfaced here (apparently from ebay around 5 years ago) so is it still around?

mybug: Searched and spooled through every image/video/old ad I can find on the internet, I'm thinking that PTO 365M is not around any more. May be resting in a shed, but given the small and tight-knit Bug community, I'd have thought that someone would know it.
