My bug has had intermitant starting problems for a while,but now all the time.turn the key nothing not even a click,I replaced solenoid then ignition switch but still the same,so did some checks.the live wire into switch provides 12.4 volts but at starter connector when you turn key only 9.5 volts,if I use a battery box with 12.7 volts to solenoid wire from switch it will turn starter,could it be to 2 switches with a problem,the second one being new but doesn't look great quality,thanks

Start by checking the solenoid ...12v nominal from the key should be enough to make the solenoid click - if the key is sending 12v nominal to the solenoid and you don't get a click suspect the earth wire to the solenoid itself - make a temporary direct earth connection to the metal solenoid body to check this
The intermittent fault you've had in the past sounds to me like the earth connection to the solenoid body is becoming unreliable

Thanks I did reply but didn't seem to go on here,I will check the earths but the ignition switch has 12 volts going in but only 9.5 volts coming out at the starter conector,I have ordered yet another switch a Lucus one this time
