I hate to keep beating this to death But in order to get my very old body in and out of my Bug, I think it may require having a door professionally put on the drivers side Has any one ever done this? Will it ruin the structural integrity of the car? Looking forward to hear what other people have done Once you cross the 80 year old thresh hold life changes
I've not heard of anybody putting in the kind of door you're talking about George but is it possible to build up the drivers seat so it's easier to get in and out ? How much headroom have you got at the moment ?
I appreciate that our left and right sides will differ, especially in later life, but before going down the road of major and very expensive body chops, I wonder if you might try getting in and out of the passenger side of the car, to see how easy or difficult that is. This might help establish whether the main problem area is the seat height vs the lower door opening height, or the presence of the steering wheel/column. It will be a lot easier to re-engineer the steering wheel position (and removal) than to start cutting the body.

rogeru7: Hi the basic lock is off a Triumph but it will then need a major mod to be used on the Bug canopy unless you have access to a lathe and a mill it’s not an easy mod

mysticmick: hi all . i recently purchased a bug . my dream car for restoration . i have the vin plate . with chassis number and engine number . but sadly no reg number . is there any way of finding out the original reg so i could apply for the v5 .. thanks in advance

cdb15: To Mystic Mick: contact HPI and ask if they will do a VIN-only check. Usually if you have the registration it's £19 or so, but may be different from the VIN. Or there is a DVLA procedure using form V62 - check out the government web site for the procedure.
