Finally had to drag the Bug out of my box trailer as I'm moving to Barby on Monday and will need the trailer to move the wife's plant collection! The body of the Bug was just resting on the chassis so it was a quick yank with a man at each corner and it came away. The chassis has been treated with some sort of anti rust product that has obviously worked as there is not a bit of rust to be found. I can only assume the vehicle has been dry stored since 1978? It's been fitted with a later 850 motor and an alternator. It also has a hydraulic clutch fitted.
From what I can see, it appears to have been an ongoing project, as many of these cars are, never having been run since the 70's. The motor is not seized but I will strip it and check it over, the dip stick shows unused oil so it may have been rebuilt already?
It will require a new wiring loom and numerous other parts but I'll tap up the members for bits and pieces as and when needed. The body is a bit battered and has had a terrible repair to the front but I will order a new front section and graft that on once I get started on the body.
Looking at what's for sale recently, I think I got quite lucky. Very little to do to the chassis and just a strip and rebuild of the motor possibly. All the brakes have been done as well so just a refresh and new pipework. The pedal box it well rotten so I assume the body was left outside at some point, for quite some time.
If you have a question your better of starting a topic in the main forum.

mybug: Anyone know the whereabouts of PTO 365M? It was mine back in the early 80s and some pix have surfaced here (apparently from ebay around 5 years ago) so is it still around?

mybug: Searched and spooled through every image/video/old ad I can find on the internet, I'm thinking that PTO 365M is not around any more. May be resting in a shed, but given the small and tight-knit Bug community, I'd have thought that someone would know it.
