Yes it should have a handle to aid closing the canopy, the handle is black plastic and the 2 hinge brackets are chrome plated, I think they are door pull handles on other Reliant cars

If we're right, then the part number to search for is GLZ 118. There are loads available on eBay priced around £4-5. Some people sell them in pairs so (George) you might want to buy a pair so you have a spare. You can check the fitting: apparently the fixing screws are on 120mm centres. HTH

Just thought if you have an early car then there is an additional pull down handle fitted on the drivers side windscreen pillar

There is a steel plate bonded into the fibreglass in front of the canopy catch, you should see 2 threaded holes which secure the handle hinges to the canopy, I think the holes are either 2 BA or 1/4 UNF

I bought the pull handle #GLZ118. And went to see my car this morning. The plate for the canopy support next to the latch is not there. And there does not appear to be another place to anchor the handle. I did look all over the canopy for one. I can make the plate and install it. If there is another suggestion please let me know I am presently using the side curtain surround to pull down the canopy but want to remove the side curtains to make getting out easier

Please note the plate is bonded underneath the fibreglass so you will not see it, you should be seeing 2 holes if not then they have been filled in. My canopy is in bits at the moment so I will look at it tomorrow and take some measurements of the hole positions

The plate for the canopy support next to the latch is not there
If you place it against the bodywork where there is a steel frame underneath you will feel a certain amount of 'pull' is needed to pull the magnet away again. If you find an area where the pull is much stronger, where perhaps even the magnetic force is so strong it will support the magnet and stop it falling off, then that will be a plate area.
If you now trace gradually along the frame towards the plate area (have a pencil or masking tape to hand) you will be able to find the edge of the plate, where the magnetic attraction moves from 'reasonable' to 'massive'. Mark the transition point with the pencil or tape. Now do the same from the other side and again mark the edge. This won't give you the exact edge of the plate, but it will enable you to mark the centre line of the plate, and from that you can measure out 60mm each side and mark lines square to the axis of the fame. The mounting holes should be along these lines.
If you don't want to mark your bodywork, stick masking tape over the whole area first and put your markings on that.
As to precisely *where* along these lines, you can make an educated guess depending on the overall breadth of the body work, and its contours and the likely symmetry of the fitting.
If you resort to exploratory drilling into the bodywork, use a very small diameter drill, say 1/16 inch, so that the hole can be filled without too much cosmetic damage. You might try a hole on the centre line first. There will be no threaded hole here, so you should hit the steel plate after about 1/8 - 1/4 inch. Now if you drill again where you think the threaded holes will be, mark the drill bit with tape at this same depth. If you hit steel at this depth then you have missed the hole, but if you get to this depth and you can keep on drilling then you will likely be *in* the threaded hole, and if you keep on going you will eventually come out the other side - so be careful!!
If you think you have found the threaded hole, then make a series of drillings around it, forming a circle about 1/4 - 5/16 inch across. If you hit the plate with these but not with the central hole then you have found the threaded hole in the plate.
If you find you have removed too much bodywork around the hole area, you can of course fill the parts removed in error, or alternatively when you mount the handle, place a stainless steel penny washer under the mounting. This will not only neaten up the hole but also help spread the load of the handle hinge plates on the GRP.
