You may not know this, but we are a small business with 9 employees. This amazing team has made ProBoards what it is today: a fantastic, free online community platform.
As a free service, ProBoards makes most of its revenue from online ads. The global recession has brought on a major drop in advertising, which affects our ability to support our team members and continue innovating.
Our forums are not going away, but we need your help.
Supporting us means helping our team members and drives the continued development of our next generation forum platform. In addition, contributors will be rewarded with many unique benefits.
From everyone here at ProBoards, thank you for being a valued member of our community, and thank you for your support.
Im thinking we could do something to help them out. Any Suggestions ?
The most obvious thing that EVERY member can do is to whitelist Proboards in their ad-blockers.
The vast majority of members and guests will do nothing whatsoever as is proven on here on a daily basis, A sad fact I'm afraid Chris.
Oh such cynicism in one so young !
"The vast majority of members and guests will do nothing whatsoever" - this is undoubtedly true, but applies in all aspects of life. None of us can possibly do much more than 10% of anything for anyone else, or we'd very soon die of exhaustion. You have to keep yourself fit and sane or you won't be of any help to anyone else for anything at all.
"proven on here on a daily basis" - not so sure about this part. Is it not the case that this club, this forum, the spares scheme and all the contributions and suggestions, the help everyone gives to everyone else, the very existence of the various posts - and none of it driven by law or employment contract - is that not itself proof that loads of people are prepared to chip in and do 'their bit' ?
Realism not cynicism and as for "loads of people chipping in" oh if only, if only, it's a tiny minority that post on here more than once a blue moon. I've not counted but I'd be stunned if regular contributors on here were even into double figures.. There are 100's of people who come on here regular as clockwork who year in year out contribute absolutely zilch and that's their prerogative but let's not kid ourselves its anything but a handful of members helping others out. Take this thread now Chris, let's see how many different people reply compared to how many people just ghost the thread ?
That's life Vannin. I used to help run a youth club. Every now and again we would ask for volunteers to help. No one ever came forward. Just happy to drop the kids off for a few hours. In the end I thought stuff it I ain't an unpaid child minder and the youth club folded. Fortunately we have some great folks within the Bug scene and always have.
With reference to the board host issues they are just after some donations. I may auction or raffle something. :-)
'Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps his mouth shut' Contributions to any forum have to have some relevance and not just degenerate into a point scoring exercise. Personally, I don't do social media as it all seems narcissistic and mostly fed by individuals with their own ego/agenda that needs propping up. I would guess most people who have any interests in this forum would be in their 50's or older and less inclined to sink to such petty contributions? Lets not trivialize the point of this space to air our views, intensions, dreams and disappointments!
adl2: cdb15, that's just such a shame that someone let it get into that state. I know that's more than I could cope with but I admit I am slightly tempted. For the VIN, it would end up as a Trigger's broom of a restoration.

burlmeister: Trouble fitting new 6052 fan belt. Alternator adjusted to the max. Belt is on the engine and alt pulleys but I just cannot get it to stretch over the lip of the fan pulley. Is there a trick to this? Driving me nuts!

mysticmick: hi all . i recently purchased a bug . my dream car for restoration . i have the vin plate . with chassis number and engine number . but sadly no reg number . is there any way of finding out the original reg so i could apply for the v5 .. thanks in advance
May 8, 2021 16:20:42 GMT
cdb15: To Mystic Mick: contact HPI and ask if they will do a VIN-only check. Usually if you have the registration it's £19 or so, but may be different from the VIN. Or there is a DVLA procedure using form V62 - check out the government web site for the procedure.
