Personally I wouldn't get too hung up on price either. Patience is the name of the game. Obviously the February auction price was exceptional, and equally obviously loads of people thought they'd make a quick buck by jumping on the bandwagon. But as far as I can see there is no sound basis for that February price other than particular circumstances for that specific sale - the car was exceptional, the buyer was exceptional, there were things going on in the background we know nothing about that were exceptional... whatever it was, you can be certain that the factor doesn't apply generally across the board, and other Bugs won't command that price level at least not more than once or twice, and in time prices will fall back to more sensible levels.
If you rush in and spend OTT to get a Bug now you can be pretty certain the prices will fall more yet, and so the value of your car will go down right from day one. Buying during a long term trend is fine, but buying when the market is clearly fluctuating wildly is fraught with risks - not least the much increased probability of real dogs being tarted up to look pretty but hiding who knows what problems underneath.
