So what's this other tripod you've bought then Capt B ? let's have all the gory details then :-)
Martin Bennett, a club member you know, is now unable to extract himself from a Bug so he asked Ivan if he knew anyone who might be interested. Ivan asked me if I was in the market for a rolling restoration so it went from there. The Bug has been sat in a shed for years, though Martin has started it regularly, it will need a good going over. If you know Martin, he likes to 'enhance' the potential so he had modified the 850 motor and has upgraded the lights to LED's etc. I think if Martin was more able he would have converted it to Nuclear Power!
I've yet to get it up in the air and see just how good/bad the chassis is. At least its complete and running and is known to the club whereas the Rug Bug has been out of circulation for decades and will require some time to get it ready for the road. The chassis on the Rug is like new and it would be ideal for someone who does not do welding or fabrication as many of the cars need after 50 years of neglect.
Your probably thinking I stole it off Martin for two grand! Well, I paid £6000 and I think that was £1000 to much to be honest but it comes with plenty of spares. In the grand scheme of things, I just wanted a project that I could take to the 50th and have some fun in, I'm not interested in having a show winner!
I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them up, be warned, it's not pretty.
You have been busy on the Bug front, as they old saying goes, one is never enough and at least you'll by the sound of it stand a much better chance of getting to the 50th in a Bug. Look forward to seeing some photographic evidence of your latest aquesition Capt.

rogeru7: Hi the basic lock is off a Triumph but it will then need a major mod to be used on the Bug canopy unless you have access to a lathe and a mill it’s not an easy mod

mysticmick: hi all . i recently purchased a bug . my dream car for restoration . i have the vin plate . with chassis number and engine number . but sadly no reg number . is there any way of finding out the original reg so i could apply for the v5 .. thanks in advance

cdb15: To Mystic Mick: contact HPI and ask if they will do a VIN-only check. Usually if you have the registration it's £19 or so, but may be different from the VIN. Or there is a DVLA procedure using form V62 - check out the government web site for the procedure.
