Right, you fonts of knowledge you,
Does anyone know if you can get new rockers / tappets for the Reliant engine?
It looks like I'm going to have to whip the head off "again" as I still seem to be losing water, now from the rad cap after parking up from a trip. However after reading an article on the forum this may be down to the head.
If I'm going to get the head skimmed then I would like to replace the tappets / rockers at the same time as I think they are worn.
Does anyone have a clue as to where to get a set or what car would have used the same ones at the time.
All and any help welcome as usual.
Dean.

New rocker shafts are available but not sure about the tappets, normally you can remove the indentation created by the end of the valve stem by light grinding or hand stoning

Ok thanks, but just where would you look to get some new rockers?
last time I had the head off and set the gaps I did notice that one or two of the rockers seems worn. As they are surely case hardend the wear can only get worse.
So could do with a whole new set.

Since the Reliant engine came originally from Austin (OK, I know they started with JAP engines etc, and it's so long since I read up on this I can't recall the details, but somewhere along the line didn't they have an engine derived from the same origins as the later Austin 7 engines?) it's likely that anyone supplying the healthy Austin 7 classics market will have a supply of re-manufactured rockers that will fit.
However, before you go down that road, you might like to check out Fifer's Reliant web site where you will find an article describing refurbishment of Reliant rockers. Apparenty these items are known to have covered up to 200K miles, so it's unlikely the ones you have already are anywhere near the end of their useful lives.
