Without there being a drain plug, how is one to check or change the rear axle oil? Or do you simply wait for the axle to fail, then take it off and fit a whole replacement recon axle? [just kidding!] Can you syphon the old oil out through the fill plug? How do you flush it before re-filling?
Can you split the diff casing enough without dismantling the whole axle, to let the old oil out? And how then do you claen up and re-seal the joint?
Does anyone use a fluid extractor (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlSL5xpKB24&t=213s) and if so, are they any good?
Received wisdom is the oil should be good for 30-50,000 miles, but when you don't know what's in there, where to start?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi cdb15 in general diff oil rarely needs to be flushed out however if for any reason you need to change the oil you can syphon out the old oil from the filler plug by sucking through a clear tube, fill the new oil through the filler hole until the oil starts to run out which means the level is correct. Not a good idea to split the diff as there is no jointing gasket only metal to metal contact with jointing compound. Regards Roger
