I don't own a Bug yet but I have looked at one and it was Lime Green. It appears to have been Lime Green all its life but I'm not so sure now you have supplied the chassis number range above. I fear its been re-painted.
I understand from Wikipedia that six Rothmans Bugs were built and painted white. Is the chassis number range above for the Rothmans Bugs?
According to another source six Lime Green Bugs were produced for 'companies', I assume these are not being confused with the Rothmans Bugs?
After 40 years a lot of bugs have been resprayed probably most of them. There was talk Reliant were going to build the Bug in Lime green thus Corgi started producing the toy car in lime green. There were a few promotional bugs like the daily sketch and cape fruit bugs plus dick emery gave away a bug. This is now owned by a mate of mine.
I cant recal ever reading about 6 lime green cars. The Rothmans ones were resprayed back to orange and as far as we know never used by Rothmans.Yes the numbers quoted were the chassis numbers.
Hi Mr. Bean, There were never any lime green Bugs made. They were all orange at 'birth' but some were re-sprayed for advertising purposes (not many and not green). I , personally. have my doubts about the Rothmans existence but am open to any 'proof' and to be persuaded otherwise! Well, actually, I am pretty sure they were sprayed white for Rothmans but rarely or not ever used and, as Stiffy says, were re-painted orange and sold on, as were the black LBC Bugs (which were orange from the factory).
When Reliant were deciding on the colour for Bugs, the short list was for orange or lime green. I have read in the minutes of Reliant meetings (in the Archive) that they decided on orange as is was more visible on the road when covered in mud and road grime that the lime green. I think this is where the rumour came from that there might have been lime green bugs - but there wasn't any ever made. Hope this helps.
If you have the chassis no. or reg of the Bug you went to see, I may be able to give you some of the history (and maybe tell you when it was re-sprayed) from the records.
Hi,I have the chance to buy a rothmans bug,my mate has the other 2 , the reg of mine is 192h,on the last for letters and numbers, and my mate has the follow on letters, numbers, which ends with,193h,and 194h ,so as I am supposed to understand 191h and 195h 196h is no longer on the road, can anyone verify the plates on the rothmans are correct, thanks.
Oh sorry, thought IDE put it on earlier, right about 9 years ago I had an orange bug ,,but not for long as I had to sell, but in the time I had it,I was looking on the net just at pics of bugs, and then I came across a b/w pic of a bug in white I presumed, with a lady I think stud at the side of it,she had long hair ,I now rake it this was a guinni girl ,which I have only just heard about in the last week,,,I have just recently been looking again for it but can not find it anywere,so it must have gone, but it did say rothmans on it,,it is vaguely in my head exactly how it was ,but I even showed my mate,at the time and he also remembers it ,but I'm re stickering mine ,but will explain to the designer how it was ,,but although it was a b/w picture ,,u cud see it wasn't black so presuming blue,

mybug: Anyone know the whereabouts of PTO 365M? It was mine back in the early 80s and some pix have surfaced here (apparently from ebay around 5 years ago) so is it still around?

mybug: Searched and spooled through every image/video/old ad I can find on the internet, I'm thinking that PTO 365M is not around any more. May be resting in a shed, but given the small and tight-knit Bug community, I'd have thought that someone would know it.
