Been pulling my hair out over the last couple of weeks, garage too cold to spend long time etc. Then decided that the carb was away with the fairies, so scrounged one off a pal for tests...still pulling my hair out...it's getting serious not much left. Reread the books on carb tuning etc, then noticed a paragraph "carbs do not go out of tune until HIGH mileage, check the engine peripherals first"...now that rang a bell. Checked the points setting and Dwell and they were off the scale...reset points gap and checked Dwell...spot on. Then checked the Timing, had to set by eye as I cannot get a good sightline on the marks (Reliant engine and have to squint down past the fan). Turned the starter and its going like a Swiss watch. Moral check the obvious things first...a case of not being able to see the wood for the trees. Tomorrow is a road test. Bill
