I was hoping that someone here could advise me what springs and shock absorbers were originally fitted to the Bug?
My own belief is Girling units but I can't seem to find any hard evidence of this online. I have, however, found that Gaz, Hagon & Spax all do new replacement units.
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've had spax and Hagon on my bug. Hagon give a more firmer ride. I've travelled alot in my bug and I prefer the spax out of the two. I've also found with the hagons the chrome springs corrode quick.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes Bill, I'm in Falkirk so not that far away.
We all know which parts came off which donors (more or less) but I can't seem to find anything regarding the suspension.
Does anyone know?
David

I also use Hagons but with a lower spring rating. If you speak to Hagon they will accommodate your needs.

tartanbug, I am off to France to assist a widow woman pack but on my return will contact you and arrange a meet. There is a Bug in Blairgowrie so could invite them if they wish? Is your Bug on the road or in restoration. Bill

I've been doing some more digging and it appears that coilovers can be put together from just about any combination of parts. I think Reliant may have done just that back in 1970.
Looking online, the Bug units are very similar to Hillman Minx parts and it got me thinking. What if these fit or have the same dimensions?
Obviously it's just a theory but to me it makes perfect sense (sort of).

I found an original new unused Bond Bug OEM front shock many years ago. Blue painted body with black springs and manufactured by Girling. It's now fitted to 'DNY'
