Gent's please help,
I got the bug about a year ago and it has never run well.
I have now re-wired it from top to bottom, replaced all the, leads and caps, plugs and fuel pipes.
Still dies when you try and pull away, it does not respond when you put your foot on the throttle, does tickover lovely though. It will rev ok when not trying to move?
I always wanted one of these Bugs but i am now starting to regret buying it? Any help on making this darn thing run right would be great plz.
It has a zenith cab on it, if that make any differance.
Plz , Plz help.
Regards Dean.

Were about are you ? maybe someone close who can help. you say it revs. so have you checked out your brakes see if they are sticking on ? jack it up and see if wheels turn free (brakes not sticking on) it could be clutch slip(put hand brake on a see if you can pull away)if you can) it could be carb set up/fault it could be timing but if it starts ok must be close enough. start with the basics and work through like you have started doing pugs points ignition circuit etc and the above.

Dean I think you are looking in the right place with either fuel or ignition. If you haven't yet, put new points, condenser and coil on it. Rebuild the carb with a service kit. If you can't get a service kit, get a webber 32 ICH carb, all the bits including the whole card are still made for that and it is a straight swap except that the cables come out the opposite ways. The next thing to look at would be the fuel pump. You can get replacements easily but check that the arm that runs on the cam shaft is the same, there are different lengths. Or you can fit an electric pump, which also helps keep the fuel cool.

If it ticks over OK I doubt it's timing - Reliant engines are pretty forgiving about timing
Zenith carb: ...main jet blocked (at the bottom of the float bowl accessed from the blanking bolt at the bottom of the float bowl - you may have to take the carb off for that) or accelerator jet not working (easy to check: looking down the carb; press the accelerator and a good squirt of fuel should come out of the little bent pipe directly into the carb venture)
