We are having trouble with bug and decided to change carb for a Weber 32ICH only to find they are now obsolete! The carb specialist said Weber had tinkered with the 34 as a replacement but reports are it doesn't work very well! Any suggestions? Ken

I had a Weber 34 ICH for a while on my Bug which fitted easily onto the standard Bug inlet manifold. Ideally the 34 should be re-jetted as some were intended for use on a 2 litre Land Rover!!!. It worked well enough and only replaced it because a new 32 ICH came along which has given no problems (once the fuel shut off solenoid was disabled)
Both carbs can occasionally be found in 'New' condition. Parts are available for both if you search hard enough as they are getting scarce. The 32 ICH was fitted on some early 995cc Ford Fiesta's.
The standard Bug choke and throttle cable is an easy fit to both but the fuel inlet is not a screw in type so a fuel pipe has to be improvised in a way that it will not spill over a hot engine or exhaust in the event of a leak. I used most of the original Bug steel fuel pipe.
The original Bug air filter will fit on both as would other filters that have a 64mm opening to the carb. Preferably one with a built in engine oil breather stub.
That said, the original Zenith 30IZ is still good enough if rebuilt.

Thanks for info Floydy. It's given us some ideas of ways to go. You can still get the service kits for 32 so may try and source a second hand carb.
