Planning to flush the Bug cooling system at the weekend....What method do you use to give yours a really good flush through ?...Was planning to back flush the radiator but how about the engine block...? Feeding water into the hot water outlet for the heater and out through the front of the block.....or down through the engine block drain plug ?
Would be interested to hear others methods for a "Good clean"

Thanks Steve...I was thinking about this....but do you think there is any chance that using this (or one of these other cleaning aids) could dislodge some crud that is preventing a leak in a sensitive area such as around core plugs or similar....My quandary is that i have no overheating issues at the moment I just want to refresh with new anti freeze....what are your thoughts....

It will do a good clean if that's what you need (was there a leak before then ?)but if its just to replace the antifreeze then just do that maybe sd1

A chap I know who runs a Lotus Esprit had a Terraclean a few months ago, cost around £90-100, and had serious problems afterwards in getting things running smoothly again. Now, before you panic, long story short, he had a top end rebuild due to one badly burned out valve and a second well on the way. So we think that the clean out did make a real difference, and did dislodge stuff that might have been better left alone, but really it just accelerated what was happening in the engine anyway. Which was good - by exacerbating the valve problem it actually helped bring it to light, rather than allowing things to limp on, with erratic running and no clear symptom as to what was wrong. I don't think cleaning will actually create a problem, but it may well unmask something that is already there but which you don't yet know about.

LOTUS ...Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious isn't it? :-) - anyone got a suitable acronym for Bond Bug? Yes, that's the Lotus. Never heard one for Reliant or Bond, but for Fiat - Fix It Again Tomorrow. How about this for the Bug: Bright Orange No Doors ?

Did hear one for RELIANT once ...I believe it was coined by David Bicker? who ran one of the earliest incarnations of a Bug owners club in the early 80s He always wrote RELIANT as TNAILER - yes; you've guessed it, because they are usually found upside down :-)

Dave Bickers restored my Bug years ago. I met up with him once and he told me its history.
