Have discovered alarming amount of backlash/sloppyness to the pinion in my Bug axle. Am I right in thinking the pinion bearing is tapered? With the nut and flange off, the pinion wobbles around in the diff housing - is the bearing stuffed? If so is it fitted from inside the diff?

So many questions!
