Would you guys say there is much to gain from fitting a magnetic drain plug to the Gearbox (to collect stray swarf in the oil from the box)....Does anyone know the size of the plug offhand....?

If there is not a magnet fitted you could glue one onto the original plug... Job Done.

Do you reckon Araldite or something would be strong enough to hold a magnet on there Stiffy....with all that oil sloshing around though...?

Yes I cant see why not. You could even get a plastic magnet so if it did ever come of it wouldn't mash the gears up.

Yes, Araldite easily survives the engine environment, provided the thing you are sticking it to is thoroughly cleaned - detergent (hot washing up liquid + thorough toothbrush brushing) to remove worst of old oil, then white spirit (ethanol), then acetone (nail varnish remover) in that order. After acetone allow to air-dry (approx one minute) and don't touch! then apply the Araldite.
