Would you guys say there is much to gain from fitting a magnetic drain plug to the Gearbox (to collect stray swarf in the oil from the box)....Does anyone know the size of the plug offhand....?

If there is not a magnet fitted you could glue one onto the original plug... Job Done.  |

Do you reckon Araldite or something would be strong enough to hold a magnet on there Stiffy....with all that oil sloshing around though...?

Yes I cant see why not. You could even get a plastic magnet so if it did ever come of it wouldn't mash the gears up. |

Yes, Araldite easily survives the engine environment, provided the thing you are sticking it to is thoroughly cleaned - detergent (hot washing up liquid + thorough toothbrush brushing) to remove worst of old oil, then white spirit (ethanol), then acetone (nail varnish remover) in that order. After acetone allow to air-dry (approx one minute) and don't touch! then apply the Araldite. |
