I need a new locking petrol cap - can anyone please tell me what caps from standard car models fit the Bug standard neck? Also, I cannot see a vent on the diagram of the Bug tank, so does it have to be a vented cap?
TIA

I have an MGB cap on mine, but before you rush out and buy one I also have an MGB filler neck, so it might be slightly different.
The tank isn't vented so you do need to have a vented cap.

Thanks Ady
I think I will take the neck with me to the Restoration show and see if I can find a proper fit.

Some bugs had 3 prong caps while others 2. Most I believe are 2.

I needed to get one for an original neck recently. Ended up with a very close fit at an auto jumble after trying many. New old stock are about £65 on e bay etc !!!!!!!!!!! I was also told a mk1 mini cap fits but are as hard to get hold of.
Good luck

i always think that the chrome waso fuel caps suit the bug the best and aren't that difficult to get hold of, you know the 5 sided ones, infact i think i have a couple of spares if anyone is really desperate.

See you there.

Thanks all for your input.
I got a classic Mini one from an Ebay seller. It fitted, but could be twisted off when locked, so I returned it.
Closer inspection of the filler neck showed that the collar had been welded to the neck, so the filler neck seems to be a 'bitsa'.
I repaired the 'doctored' cap that came on the Bug. I found a 60mm steel washer (had to buy 100,so if anyone needs one contact me!) and custom made nitrile rubber washer to fit - good old Ebay.
So, repaired cap for £20.

My Bug came with a locking filler cap and no key . I was just about to hack it off when I tried it and it came off without being unlocked . It takes a bit of force but I have been using it like it for three years now .
