After fitting the steering box and with the front wheel straight ahead (and the drop link arm from the box straight down / vertical) I find that there is more steering wheel turns to full lock one way than the other ...is that normal?

You might be best to put it on full lock turn the wheel so its on full lock then put the drop arm in place. I remember when I first got FGU on the road the turning circle was not as good as other Bugs. I think it was on the wrong spline. Not 100 percent sure though as it was 20 years ago lol.

Thanks Stiffy ...I certainly hadn't thought of that - I'll bet that your correct :-) 1 or 2 splines out at the top of the drop arm would make a great deal of difference. Just got to hope now that I try this in-situ without having the faff of removing the whole assembly

There are several different drop arms all should have cast numbers on for instance Reliant part No 25775 has casting numbers C20506F 18 used on the early RHD Reliant Robin and Rialto's so if you have one of these steering boxes which have been adapted to fit the Bug it could have that arm which is about 25mm longer at 9.1/2" eye centre to eye centre. Reliant Regal RHD drop arm casting number is 6367 at 8.1/2" long eye centre to eye centre is Reliant Part No.12040 This could also be the original one used on the Bond Bug. Perhaps James or Mark could confirm if that info is correct. Please Note; All the drop arms have 4 unsplined quarter segments so they will only fit in certain positions on the drop arm shaft.
