Where the swivel pin (king pin) goes through the suspension unit assembly there is a lot of play there. Is the answer to bore it out then bush it.

Play: ...some vertical play is necessary on king pins but rocking play indicates wear - rocking play is when you grasp the tyre top and bottom and push and pull the wheel. New king pin kits come with new top and bottom bushes that are reamed out to fit the new king pin. If you've got and OE set up with a single grease nipple in the middle you have to fit a king pin the has had a grease channel machined from the middle up the length of the king pin so that grease put in at the middle reaches the top and bottom bushes. These king pins are stocked by Bug Spares

Thanks bondbug750 I don’t have any play in the king pin and bushes the play is where the pin goes through the front suspension unit assembly there the pin is held in place with a taper pin.

Im not sure what part your referring to Joe. The only tapered pin i know of is the one that holds the king pin in place. Is there any chance you can post a picture please.

Hi Stiffy There is play in the king pin even when the tapered pin is inserted. It gives the impression that the king pin and bushes are worn but the play is in the pin going through the suspension arm. John Attachments:

I think he means where it goes through the front A frame,If you have rocking movement there, the A frame is knackered, it needs replaced or bored and re-sleeved back to original size. Mine suffered the same fate and i had to replace it, luckily found a new one.

Thanks redbud
You called it an A frame the parts manual I have calls it front suspension unit assembly this is where the confusion has been. I’ll take to engineering workshop on Monday to get is repaired.
