Just about to re-furb my axel, when doing the oil seal (diff one) Not the half shaft ones, is it OK just do replace it? Or is the bolt done up to a set amount for pre-load or something similar??? (when I get all the bits!! Likewise if not what are the torque figures for the axle please? Also does any one have a complete engine for a bug going cheap? Thanks Chris

i did mine recently very easy task, however the nut is very!!! tight took some shifting, and take it easy how you fit the new seal as its also a very tight fit use a cylindrical tool to tap evenly around the edges. I took out the spring while i fitted the seal to prevent any damage, not sure that there is any loading on the bearing i think this is just purely a oil seal cover and nothing more. In the detailed manual there is no real mention of torque setting on the bolt, hope this helps.
