Hiya, The seal fits in the rear alloy 50p shaped casing, its a big un and often orange. if that were missing I'd have thought you'd have had more than small leak.

Hello pal! Hope your well, yes your right I have 2 engine blocks and the bond is different to my standard 750 reliant engine? Very strange? It’s like a compression slip ring around the crank and it springs into place to create a seal. Bugger to put the case back on and compress the ring as well... I’ll try and send some pics

A picture would help - but truth is I've never seen anything other than the conventional "50p plate and orange seal" ...is the flywheel end of the crank the usual size? - perhaps it had to be machined and the alternative seal fitted ...could a conventional "50p plate" be refitted (i.e. instead of whatever it is that you've got at the moment) - 6 bolt holes (4 on the block 2 on the bridge piece), the bolt holes at 3 and 9 o'clock positions are larger because sleeves are fitted into those to better locate the seal plate

Hi thanks for reply, this is really strange, it’s exactly how you say it is but there is no big orange seal, I’m guessing it may have have completely perished? I’ll try and upload pics thanks again.

Problem solved guys, it turned out to be the gearbox front oil seal that had gone, hopefully I can get a gasket and oil seal off eBay, thanks again for your help all.

Mmmm strange problem not solved, I have stripped off once again the gearbox and clutch assy, to reveal the rear crank shaft case and seal, it’s nothing like the usual large seal.
I have took some pictures
Not sure if I can add them through the mobile forum?
The 50p case is the same shape however there is a split ring that is used in the inside diameter of the case which acts like a spring and must stop the oil leaking out?
Has anyone seen this before?

I have fitted the original casing and seal as requested but not sure if this will seal as there is a recess in the crank where this ring sits? When fitting this type there was very little resistance when sliding over the crank is this correct i thought i there would be some to ensure a tight seal?

Tried this yesterday after leaving it to dry out and appears to have worked, ran engine up until reached max oil temp and no leaks!
