I don't know if every Bug has the same feature, but with mine, even with a brand new free flowing cable, pushing the accelerator pedal is a bit all or nothing. Pulling off without dainty footwork usually means I'm accidentally overrevving and must look like some desperate to impress boy racer. Is there a way to introduce some more 'gentle spring' into the throttle response?
Edit: Having written the words 'gentle spring', is the answer to get a more gentle spring?

Sounds to me like you have routed the cable the wrong way.
Un screw it at the carb end then try various routes until you have a smooth loop to the carb. Avoid major bends and it should help.

No its not that. Compared to a modern car, its difficult to always poise the revs for each gear change. I suppose it's just a feature of a lively small engine. The only way I can think to change it would be to widen the arc of swing at the carb end,but that's not possible because of the manifold. Ah well.

i take it you are still running the original zenith carburettor ? if so thats probably half your problem. the old s.u takes some beating for smooth acceleration

I have a Zenith and mine pulls away smoothly . I prefer the Zenith on my Bug compared to the SU on my Robin .
